John MacTavish

Biography

John MacTavish was a fur trader and businessman who participated in the commercial enterprises that opened and developed the American frontier. Born in 1787, he engaged in the lucrative fur trade while building broader business interests that contributed to westward expansion.

MacTavish's career exemplified the entrepreneurial ventures that characterized the early nineteenth century. He passed away in 1852 and was laid to rest at Green Mount Cemetery, remembered for his role in the commercial development of the American West.
