John Norman MacLeod
1788–1835 (age 47)
Biography
John Norman MacLeod, born in 1788, succeeded to the leadership of Clan MacLeod and represented his Highland constituents in Parliament with a deep respect for tradition and a practical concern for the new opportunities that agriculture and commerce offered the islands.
He worked to improve roads, schools, and harbours in Skye, advocated for fair treatment of crofters, and remained committed to the well-being of his people until his death in 1835, when he was buried beside his ancestors at St Mary's Church in Dunvegan.
