John Nyren combined a love of cricket with a gift for description, producing "The Cricketers of My Time," a work that has preserved the voice and spirit of the early game for posterity. As a player and a chronicler, he celebrated the camaraderie and sportsmanship of the eighteenth-century gentleman’s pastime, influencing generations of cricketers who came after him.
He cherished the friendships formed on the green and the lessons learned there, and his memory lingers still in Bromley and beyond as that of a man who kept the traditions of English cricket alive.
