John Oakey

Biography

John Oakey, born in 1829, was a Brooklyn businessman and civic-minded citizen whose efforts in commerce and local charities helped steady his neighborhood as Brooklyn expanded in the nineteenth century.

He was laid to rest in Green-Wood Cemetery, where admirers and descendants continue to visit his monument among the tree-lined avenues.
