Biography

John P. Sanderson, born in 1818, trained as a lawyer and used his gifts for writing and public discourse to help guide his community through constant change. His clear-eyed reports and legal mind kept him in demand among civic leaders who valued thoughtful debate.

When the nation plunged into civil war, Sanderson answered the call to service and remained faithful to the principles he had long championed until his death in 1864; he is buried at Ferncliff Cemetery, where his gravesite reminds visitors of a life of measured strength.
