Biography

Born in 1880, John Sherwood-Kelly answered the call of service with a determination that marked his entire career. He served with distinction in the Boer War and, despite the hardships of early campaigns, became known for his calm leadership and his empathy for the men under his command.

During the Great War he led companies in the grueling battles of the Western Front, earning the Victoria Cross for his courage under fire and subsequent promotions that entrusted him with wider responsibilities. After returning home he continued to advocate for veterans and shared the lessons of his experiences before his passing in 1931.
