Biography
John Sloss Hobart (1738–1805) was a distinguished lawyer and statesman from New York, serving in the state assembly and as a delegate to the Continental Congress before representing his state in the inaugural United States Senate. A vocal supporter of the new Constitution, he helped shape the young nation's judiciary as an early federal judge and as a participant in the debates that brought the Union together.
Hobart spent his final years in New York City, where he was laid to rest in Trinity Church Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy of principled legal service to the republic.
