John T. Newton was born in 1793 and lived through the early nineteenth century, witnessing the expansion and development of the young American nation. He was part of a generation that helped shape the character of their communities.

Newton passed in 1857 at an advanced age, having lived through nearly seven decades. He was laid to rest at Presbyterian Cemetery, reflecting the faith that guided his life and the community that sustained him.
