Biography
John Veatch (1808–1870) pursued the study of geology with a curious mind, documenting mineral wealth and natural formations to help settlers and scientists alike better understand the land. His reports on salt and borax springs brought clarity to mineral resources that would soon shape western development.
He shared his findings through lectures and writings, leaving future geologists a clearer map of the region, and he now rests among the trees of Portland where his contributions are still remembered.
