Biography

John Venn was a Cambridge mathematician whose clear thinking and love of logical structure left an enduring mark on the study of probability and set theory. His development of the diagram that now bears his name gave generations of scholars, students, and teachers the ability to make abstract relationships visually tangible.

He combined scholarly rigor with a warm devotion to his parish at the Church of St Mary and St Michael in Trumpington, where he found community and quiet purpose beyond the lecture hall. His long life of inquiry and quiet service remains a cherished chapter in the intellectual and spiritual life of the region.
