Biography
John W. Danenhower, born in 1849, rose to distinction as a naval officer and explorer, embarking on voyages that tested both his courage and endurance, including the Jeannette Expedition to the Arctic. He faced storms and ice with unwavering resolve and a deep commitment to the sailors under his charge.
Though the rigors of exploration took a toll on his health, he remained devoted to the Navy and to the ideals of knowledge and discovery, and he now rests at Riverside Cemetery where admirers honor his maritime legacy.
