Biography
Johnny St. Cyr shaped the sound of early jazz with his spirited performances and nimble banjo and guitar work. Born at the dawn of the twentieth century, he became a cherished member of the New Orleans scene and went on to bring jazz to audiences far beyond Louisiana.
He spent his days traveling with bands and imparting joy through music, and Evergreen Cemetery now provides a peaceful resting place for a true pioneer of American culture.
