Jonathan Maxcy

Biography

Jonathan Maxcy, a Baptist clergyman, became one of the nation's earliest college presidents, guiding Brown University before he accepted the presidency of South Carolina College in Columbia.

In Columbia he sought to form citizens of integrity, drawing on his spiritual convictions to nurture both the mind and the heart of the young institution.
