Biography

Josef Janeček (1893–1947) was a Czech individual whose life encompassed the interwar period and the early years of Communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Born in the final years of Austro-Hungarian dominion, he experienced the full arc of 20th-century Central European history.

Janeček lived through the establishment of the Czechoslovak state, the relative stability of the interwar years, the Nazi occupation, and the immediate postwar period. He died in 1947, a time of significant transition as Czechoslovakia moved toward Communist control. He was laid to rest at Olšany Cemetery in Prague.
