Biography
Josef Mathauser (1940–1991) was a Czech citizen born in the early years of communist Czechoslovakia. His formative years unfolded during the 1950s and 1960s, periods of significant ideological consolidation and later cultural ferment in his nation.
Mathauser lived through the Prague Spring of 1968 and the subsequent decades of normalized communist rule. His life was cut short in 1991, just as the newly independent Czech Republic was beginning its democratic transformation. He was buried at Olšany Cemetery in Prague.
