Biography

Joseph A. Bailly was a French-born sculptor who made his home in Philadelphia and shaped American civic life through monumental works, teaching a generation of artists at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

His portrait busts and architectural ornamentations continue to speak of his craft, and he was interred at Mount Peace Cemetery after his death in 1883.
