Biography

Joseph-Barthélemy Sieyès was a French clergyman who lived through the revolutionary transformation of France. As a member of the clergy during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, he witnessed and experienced the dramatic changes that the French Revolution brought to the Church and religious life in France.

Sieyès's eighty-one years encompassed the pre-Revolutionary period, the radical restructuring of French religious institutions, and the subsequent restoration of the Church's role in society. His interment in Père Lachaise Cemetery honored his long life and service to the Church during France's most turbulent period.
