Biography
Joseph Buttigieg (1947-2019) emigrated from Malta to become a beloved professor of comparative literature at the University of Notre Dame, translating poetry and teaching with warmth that introduced students to the beauty of Polish and other world literatures.
He advocated for thoughtful dialogue across cultures, championed the study of modern and medieval texts, and is commemorated by family and former colleagues at Riverview Cemetery.
