Biography
Joseph Eichler brought European modernism to postwar California neighborhoods, developing communities of open-plan homes that celebrated light, glass walls, and a seamless bond with the outdoors while making such design accessible to middle-class families.
He also stood for inclusivity, requiring that buyers of his iconic mid-century houses be treated without regard to race, and his homes remain cherished for their bold simplicity; his life is commemorated at Alta Mesa Memorial Park.
