Joseph Henry Green was a distinguished surgeon who served as Professor of Anatomy and later as President of the Royal College of Surgeons, shaping the education of medical students through lucid lectures and exacting standards. He championed the integration of physiologic research with clinical practice, guiding a generation of practitioners toward a more scientific medicine.
He also preserved the literary legacy of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, publishing the poet's philosophical writings and ensuring their careful stewardship, and he lies now at Highgate Cemetery, where his combination of medical skill and humanistic insight is still honored.
