Joseph Ketley

1802–1875 (age 73)

Biography

Joseph Ketley devoted his life to missionary work, traveling to overseas communities where he supported schools, medical aid, and the hopeful building of self-sustaining congregations. He was known for listening carefully to the people he served, resisting the imposition of foreign habits, and encouraging local leaders in the faith.

Back in London he remained a steady correspondent with his colleagues across the seas and advocated for fair treatment of freed peoples, demonstrating that missionary zeal could be accompanied by respect and practical care; he now rests in Abney Park Cemetery, where visitors may remember his earnest service.
