Biography

Joseph Knowland (1833–1912) was a pioneering merchant whose entrepreneurial instincts helped fuel the growth of his California community. Through decades of steady work, he built a business that served the needs of a rapidly expanding region, earning the trust of fellow citizens and the respect of colleagues.

He also believed in giving back, supporting educational and civic institutions that laid the groundwork for future generations. His legacy is reflected in the leaders he inspired and the community life he helped sustain, with his final rest in the Chapel of Memories Columbarium and Mausoleum.
