Joseph McMinn

Biography

Joseph McMinn (1758-1824) guided the young state of Tennessee as its fourth governor, overseeing the completion of roads, the establishment of schools, and the careful negotiation of treaties with Native nations during a period of swift expansion.

He strove to balance frontier growth with thoughtful stewardship, encouraging commerce and civic institutions while remaining mindful of the responsibilities of public service.
