Biography

Joseph Medill (1823–1899) guided the Chicago Tribune and Chicago itself through the trials of rapid growth and the trials of the Great Fire, leading with firm principles and a commitment to truth.

Throughout decades of civic engagement he championed the power of a free press and the resilience of his neighbors, and his enduring influence is honored at Graceland Cemetery.
