Biography
Joseph Stockton, born in 1833, became a trusted figure in Chicago’s thriving mercantile community. Through diligence and fair dealing he earned the respect of customers and colleagues, helping to expand the city’s reputation as a reliable center of commerce.
He believed deeply in giving back, supporting neighborhood churches and benevolent societies that assisted families in need. When he died in 1907, friends remembered him as a humble leader whose steady kindness helped bind the city together, and he now rests at Graceland Cemetery.
