Biography

Joseph von Eichendorff (1788–1857) was a German Romantic writer, poet, and diplomat whose literary works became central to German Romantic literature. Born into Prussian nobility, he crafted lyrical poetry and prose that captured the spirit of Romanticism, with works such as "Aus dem Leben eines Taugenichts" (From the Life of a Good-for-Nothing) achieving enduring significance in German letters.

Beyond his literary achievements, Eichendorff served in diplomatic and administrative capacities, reflecting his engagement with the political life of his era. He spent his final years in Nysa in Upper Silesia, where he died and was buried, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most important voices of German Romanticism.
