1825–1895 (age 70)
Biography
Joshua H. Marvil, born in 1825 in Laurel, rose from modest beginnings to become a respected merchant and civic leader, known for treating his neighbors with fairness and for helping the town weather both economic and social storms.
Called to serve as Governor of Delaware in the spring of 1895, he approached the office with humility and a promise of steady progress, but his term was cut short by illness; his brief time in leadership nonetheless reminded many of the quiet courage found in ordinary service.
