Biography
Joshua Mersereau (1728–1804) was a colonial New Yorker who took up arms in the Revolution, serving as an officer in the local militia and assisting in the defense of the state during the struggle for independence. His leadership helped maintain order in the region while the Continental Army carried the fight forward.
After the war he returned to civilian life, remaining a familiar figure along the Hudson and resting at Riverside Cemetery, where his grave recalls the sacrifices of those who preserved the republic.
