Joshua Whittall

Biography

Joshua Whittall was born in 1776 and came of age during the American Revolutionary War and the early years of British expansion in India. He was part of the growing European community in Calcutta during a period of significant commercial and political development under British colonial rule.

Joshua lived twenty-seven years before his death in 1803. His burial at South Park Street Cemetery reflects his place within the British expatriate community of colonial Calcutta, where he spent his relatively brief but formative years.
