Biography
Jotham Bixby was born in 1831 and became a pioneering land developer whose vision helped shape the Southern California coast. After moving west, he acquired vast ranchlands and turned them into productive farmland and communities, earning him a reputation as an energetic promoter of progress.
He gave freely to educational and religious institutions, helping to establish schools and parks that welcomed new residents, and remained a benefactor long after his retirement. His resting place at Evergreen Cemetery recalls a life spent building towns and nurturing civic pride.
