József Berán was a Hungarian association football player whose athletic career represented the early development of organized sport in Hungary. Born in 1883, he participated in football during the formative years of the sport's establishment in Hungarian society.
Berán's brief but notable athletic career exemplified the growing enthusiasm for modern sports in turn-of-the-century Hungary. He passed away in 1905 at a young age and was laid to rest at the Fiume Road Graveyard, remembered as a pioneer of Hungarian football.
