Biography
Cardinal József Mindszenty gave witness to unwavering faith and moral courage, shepherding the Hungarian church as its archbishop while defending religious freedom during some of Europe's most turbulent decades.
His exile and eventual presence at Mariazell Basilica testify to the trials he endured, and pilgrims still visit the basilica to honour his steadfast leadership following his death in 1975.
