1892–1955 (age 63)
Biography
József Sümeghy explored Hungary’s varied terrain with the curiosity of a scientist and the clarity of a teacher, explaining the secrets of rivers and mountains to students and peers alike. His journeys across the Carpathian Basin translated into studies that guided engineers and planners with a deep sense of geological continuity.
He remained committed to sharing his findings in accessible lectures, and his scholarly rigour helped anchor a new generation of geologists. His grave in the New Public Cemetery, Budapest, marks the place where the earth he studied now cradles his memory.
