Biography
Juhan Liiv (1864–1913) is remembered as one of Estonia’s most tender poets, whose verses mirrored the isolation and intensity he felt while grappling with poverty and illness. His lyricism celebrated humble souls, the rhythms of nature, and the quiet resilience of people who refused to be forgotten.
Despite periods of struggle, he continued to write, leaving a body of work that later generations treasured, and he was laid to rest near Alatskivi, where admirers still visit to honor his lyrical voice.
