Julien Marnier-Lapostolle

1902–1976 (age 74)

Biography

Julien Marnier-Lapostolle, born in 1902, devoted himself to the study and cultivation of citrus, merging science with the refined tastes of the Cognac houses his family supported. His skillful botanist's eye perfected groves of bitter oranges and other rare varieties, creating the aromatic heart of the liqueurs that bear his family's name.

He believed that careful observation of soil, climate, and tradition could elevate a simple fruit to a symbol of craftsmanship, and he shared that ethos with apprentices and growers who labored beside him. Julien Marnier-Lapostolle rests in Passy Cemetery, where visitors remember the fragrant groves he once tended.
