Julius Hess devoted his medical career to the smallest patients, establishing one of the earliest hospital nurseries dedicated to premature infants and introducing neonatal care practices that would become standard across the nation.

He trained nurses to tend to the fragile, shared his findings with colleagues, and guided Chicago families through anxious times, leaving a reputation for compassion that endures near Oak Woods Cemetery.
