Biography
Julius Schwartz, born in 1915 and raised by fans of science fiction, joined the world of comic books with an enthusiasm for science and imagination that helped transform an industry. He became a guiding presence at DC Comics, shaping the Silver Age by shepherding the reinvention of characters such as the Flash and Green Lantern and encouraging fresh storytelling voices.
As an editor he championed writers and artists who balanced pulpy thrills with thoughtful worldbuilding, insisting that heroes could follow the laws of science while still inspiring readers. His calm leadership and respect for creators left a legacy of daring creativity that endures beyond his 2004 passing, and he is laid to rest at Mount Hebron Cemetery.
