Biography

Kalpana Chawla pursued the stars from early on, earning degrees in aerospace engineering and eventually joining NASA as an astronaut whose gentle courage captured the imagination of young scientists everywhere. She completed one mission to space and was preparing for another, always speaking of the view of Earth from orbit as a reminder of our shared destiny.

Her life ended aboard Columbia, a loss felt keenly in classrooms and research labs around the world, yet her legacy is still honored with exhibits, scholarships and the quiet reflection space at Zion National Park. Her determination to break barriers for women and immigrants keeps inspiring new generations of explorers.
