Karel Novák

1871–1955 (age 84)

Biography

Karel Novák shaped stone and metal into forms that honored Czech ideals, from civic monuments to small-scale works of grace. His sculptural language wove together classical balance with the emerging spirit of the 20th century, making each piece a reminder of endurance in precarious times.

Friends and patrons treasure his willingness to mentor apprentices and to speak of art as service, and visitors to Vyšehrad can still pause by his resting place to feel the sculptor’s continuing presence.
