Biography

Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi (1801–1876) was an Ottoman writer and judicial official whose scholarly contributions enriched the intellectual life of the Ottoman Empire. His work bridged the traditional Islamic learning and the modernizing currents of the nineteenth century.

İzzet Efendi's legacy reflects the important role of Ottoman intellectuals in navigating the complex transformations of their era. He was laid to rest in Tophane, a historic district of Istanbul.
