Biography

Kelly Miller (1863–1939) was a distinguished mathematician, sociologist, and educator who broke barriers as one of the first African Americans to study at Johns Hopkins and later served as a guiding light at Howard University. His writings on race, science, and society gave voice to a new generation of thinkers and helped steer conversations about education and equality.

Laid to rest at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, he is fondly recalled for his boundless energy, his belief in the promise of young people, and his ability to blend rigorous scholarship with heartfelt compassion.
