Biography

Khải Định was the twelfth emperor of the Nguyễn Dynasty, reigning from 1916 to 1925. His reign occurred during the height of French colonial rule in Vietnam, a period when the emperor's authority was significantly constrained by colonial administration. Despite these limitations, Khải Định worked to preserve aspects of Vietnamese royal tradition and culture.

Khải Định's tomb, the Tomb of Khai Dinh, stands as a remarkable architectural achievement that blends Vietnamese and European design elements, reflecting the complex cultural dynamics of the colonial period. His reign represents an important chapter in the final years of the Nguyễn Dynasty.
