Biography

Konstantin Zhostov, born in 1867, shaped his professional life around the modernization of the Bulgarian army during the formative years of the kingdom. He rose through the ranks with a keen focus on staff work, eventually becoming Chief of the General Staff where he oversaw training, organizational reforms, and the preparation of troops for the trying campaigns that lay ahead.

During the Balkan Wars he provided steady counsel to political leaders and was admired for his integrity and analytical mind; his service ended in 1916, yet his influence on the General Staff's professional culture endures in the memories kept at his grave in the Central Sofia Cemetery.
