Krišjānis Barons devoted his life to collecting and preserving Latvian folk songs, emerging as a central figure in the cultural revival of the 19th century through his careful documentation of the dainas.

His meticulous assembly of these cherished melodies and their stories ensured that future generations could hear their ancestors’ voices, and his burial at the Great Cemetery marks a place where Latvians still come to honour that enduring legacy.
