Biography
Krste Misirkov (1874-1926) earned lasting renown through his work on the Bulgarian language and his engagement with the ideals of national unity and identity. His book "On the Bulgarian Language" and other writings attempted to clarify the linguistic foundations of the nation and to encourage thoughtful patriotism.
Even while traveling and teaching, he kept returning to his homeland, sharing his ideas with younger intellectuals, and today his grave in Central Sofia Cemetery is touched by those who honor his scholarship.
