Lambert Schats

Biography

Lambert Schats, born 1893, was among the Belgian defenders who stood fast in 1914 when their homeland was invaded, and he served with quiet resolve alongside his comrades. Even in the confusion of that first desperate year he found time to reassure frightened recruits and to tend to those less fortunate.

He rests now in Ruisbroek, and those who come to the cemetery may recall the bravery of the Belgian soldiers who turned back the tide long enough for others to regroup.
