Biography

Lars Valerian Ahlfors (18 April 1907 – 11 October 1996) was a Finnish mathematician, remembered for his work in the field of Riemann surfaces and his textbook on complex analysis. In 1936, Ahlfors was awarded the first Fields Medal, along with American mathematician Jesse Douglas.
