László Szalay (1813–1864) was a distinguished Hungarian writer and intellectual who contributed significantly to the literary and cultural discourse of his nation. His career spanned the turbulent mid-nineteenth century, a period of profound change and national consciousness in Hungary, during which he pursued his literary endeavors.

Szalay's work as a writer reflected the intellectual currents of his time, and his contributions to Hungarian letters were recognized by his contemporaries. He passed away at the age of 51 and was interred at the Fiume Road Graveyard, where his memory is preserved among other notable figures of Hungarian society.
