Laura Augusta Jordan Applewhite came into the world in 1842, living through the Civil War and the transformations that followed in the southern towns she called home. She nurtured family and neighbors with grace, keeping alive stories of resilience even in the face of adversity.

When she passed in 1928 her community in Scotland Neck recalled her warm presence; that town now honors her memory as a woman whose tenderness helped steady others through uncertain years.
