Leonard Woods Labaree
1897–1980 (age 83)
Biography
Leonard Woods Labaree took a scholarly view of life, teaching history in local schools and encouraging pupils to treasure their family stories as much as any textbook. He often spent winters repairing church pews and summers leading canoe trips that introduced children to the local rivers.
His calm integrity and dry humor turned ordinary meetings into memorable lessons, and he was a steadfast presence at Northford's civic gatherings. Leonard is laid to rest in Northford New Cemetery, surrounded by the fertile fields he loved to survey.
